We're on a veggie kick here lately, possibly because our new Bacontern is a vegetarian. Green beans and Bacon Salt have long been a favorite here, and this recipe adds some new twists.
Maple Bacon Salt Green Beans
- 4 cups fresh green beans, trimmed and snapped on the ends
- 3 tbsp oil
- 2 yellow or white onions, chopped
- 2 tbsp chopped and minced garlic
- 2 cups water
- 1/8 cup white vinegar
- 3 tbsp Maple Bacon Salt (we used Maple, but any flavor should work well)
- Black pepper
Heat the oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add garlic and onions, and sautee until the onions are crisp-tender. Add the green beans, and cook for 10 minutes, occasionally stirring. Mix the water and Maple Bacon Salt, and simmer over low heat until the water evaporates and the green beans are tender (up to one hour). Add more Maple Bacon Salt and black pepper to taste and serve warm, room temperature or cold.
