Introducing Operation Bacon Salt

Imag0024_2 When we launched Bacon Salt, we always said we wanted to do good and do well. This is one of the reasons why we donate all of our merchandise sales to Mercy Corps, which is doing some amazing things in trouble spots around the world.

When we started getting emails from soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan detailing that regular access to bacon was not provided to our troops, we were outraged. Why isn't the press covering this? we thought. Regardless of your take on the war, our troops are in hostile conditions miles from their homes and families with NO bacon.

So we decided to take action. Bacon Salt is vegetarian, and isn't (quite) as offensive to the locals in these countries. It also makes "MRE's - meals ready to eat - taste like the last supper" according to one Marine.

We're still a very young company and can't quite afford to send Bacon Salt to all of our troops. But we are doing what we can, and hope to do more. Our plan is to sponsor one Bacon Salt barbecue per month in Iraq or Afghanistan until our troops come home. As we write this, there's an emergency deployment of Bacon Salt going out to some members of the Stryker Brigade in Iraq.

Comments

I read about your operation bacon salt on the Military Times Website and would like to thank you. As a proud Army mom and a sister-in-law to a Marine, I understand the needs of the soldiers in Iraq. The #1 item that I have shipped to my son are condiments to spice up the MRE's. Your product will be greatly appreciated and if you would like to send some to the Army here is the APO in Kirkuk, Iraq :

Thank you,
Proud Army Mom

This bacon salt would also be appreciated by Peace Corps volunteers!

We agree! We'll be in touch and figure out how we do this.
