It's flu season, and this weekend I thought I was knocking on death's door - I often invoked Fred Sanford with cries of "this is the big one." Cold, hot, fever, coughing, upset stomach, achey - I had the works.
But while I was sick and delirious, I used Bacon Salt in ways that didn't require much energy or effort and helped me start to feel better. Here's my list of comfort foods from the weekend that helped put me on the road to recovery.
- Hickory Bacon Salt with tomato soup - there's a recipe for this on our website, and it's really quite easy. There's nothing like a hot bowl of soup to bring you back to life!
- Buttered pasta with Original Bacon Salt - if you've got the stomach flu like I did, there's not much you can keep down. But this easy dish - literally butter, pasta and Original Bacon Salt - was the one thing I could eat for a couple of days, and it really is delicious. If your stomach is already feeling better, go ahead and add some arugula or basil.
- Clam chowder flavored with Original Bacon Salt - this was far from homemade - just something the wife picked up at the local Ivar's chowder place - but I loved it with Original Bacon Salt.
- Brown rice with Hickory Bacon Salt - this is about as simple as food gets, but it's really good and I could definitely stomach it during the worst of my flu.
If you happen to catch what I got, get plenty of rest and you'll hopefully be back on your feet quicker than I was!
