We got our first cleared merchandise earnings from Zazzle, which manages our t-shirts, hats, posters, etc. We've committed to giving all of our proceeds from these merchandise sales to Mercy Corps, and are working on getting Zazzle to contribute part of their proceeds as well.
If you don't know about Mercy Corps, it's a charitable, secular organization based in Portland, OR that does a great job of helping alleviate suffering in the areas of the world that need it most. What we love about the organization is that you don't donate into a vortex - you can donate to the specific causes that you want to help with.
So, we have about $65 to donate at this point (it takes about a month for earnings to clear through Zazzle, and this is the first batch). It's not a lot, but $65 can do a lot of good in some of these places. There are 6 options for donations currently on the Mercy Corps website (there are explanations of each on the site):
- Where most needed
- South Asia flooding
- Silent disasters
- Sudan emergency
- Katrina rebuilding
- North Korea flooding
These all seem like worthy causes, but if you have an opinion about where the money should go, please post a comment! And if you'd like to buy some Bacon Salt merchandise, you can find it all here.
